Boutique stationery retailer Papersmiths has reopened its five locations, albeit with temporarily reduced opening hours. The reopening of coffee shops and brunch spots in the design-led stationer’s residential communities has supported selling with the outposts in Clifton Village and Chelsea’s Pavilion Road leading trade.

There are thoughtful new measures in place to protect customers and the store team without spoiling the store aesthetic and flow. These include house rules on the door, hand-santiser on entry, custom-made glass screens and a window vinyl with a message from the founders.

The lockdown period proved successful for the brand’s ecommerce sales through Founder Sidonie Warren relocated the online inventory to her spare bedroom in Hackney and utilised what would have been stagnant inventory by cycling to and from the London locations to top up on stock.

Quarter two sales were up 415% on the same period last year, with conversion rates increasing 280%. With the ecommerce operation back in the company’s Brighton offices, preparation for a successful fourth quarter is underway.

Papersmiths was founded by Sidonie Warren and Kyle Clarke, with the first Papersmiths store opening in Bristol in 2013. They are known for their innovative take on stationery retail, with meticulous merchandising and a contemporary aesthetic.
