Pencil Me In, an independent stationery shop in Elgin, Scotland, is calling on fellow independent shop retailers to join its fourth annual My Shoplife Challenge on Instagram.
The My Shoplife Challenge began in April 2017 when Pencil Me In founder Sarah Holmes realised there was nothing online to unite the wonderful community of independent British shops. “A lot of us work alone in-store, and maybe don’t have employees - this was a great way to bring a community of like-minded people together and celebrate the brilliant independent shops all over the UK and beyond.”
The idea is to post anything and everything to do with your daily experience of running an indie shop, either on your Insta grid, or to Stories - hence the challenge’s annual hashtag #myshoplife.
This year, Sarah asks everyone to tag Pencil Me In in their IG posts, and to use the hashtag #myshoplife20. Don’t forget to follow the hashtag on Instagram, to see what all the other independent shops are experiencing.
The challenge starts on April 1. Interested indie stationers can download a planner of ideas for posting from the Pencil Me In website. The idea is that participating retailers - more than 400 of whom took part in the 2019 challenge - can meet other brick-and-mortar shop owners taking part. It’s all part of bringing a great community together, no matter where in the country they are based.
