As part of London Design Week, which starts tomorrow G . F Smith is partnering with MaterialDriven, a design agency and material library, to host an exciting and immersive exhibition in their London Show Space. The exhibition will run between 8 and 11 May, 2019.
Visitors will be able to interact with and explore a range of new, experimental materials at the forefront of design and sustainability. From paper-based innovation to reimagined plastics and vegan leathers, this display takes the visitor on a journey through material making, its impact and applications in craft and design. The material samples and artefacts showcased will reflect the current landscape of making across fashion, interiors, architecture, and graphics.
The MaterialDriven team will host guided tours every day of London Design Week, where they will expand on the narratives behind each material and walk the visitor through the collection on display. There will also be an opportunity to hear from the makers of these materials themselves, through short demonstrations and talks where they will present their work, and highlight the process behind the final product.
G . F Smith has for the past 130 years fostered a healthy obsession with the beauty and limitless possibility of paper. Today they act as custodians of their founders’ legacy by making and curating what has been described as the world’s finest paper collection.
Talks and tours take place at the G . F Smith London Show Space on Eastcastle Street in Fitzrovia, from Wednesday 8 May to Friday 10 May.
