Durable celebrates 100 years

German office product brand Durable is 100 years old, and looks back on its beginnings in 1920 when it launched its state-of-the-art filing system with metal indexing tabs. Karl Hunke and Wilhelm Jochheim founded a company together to produce these index tabs, and Durable is still owned by the founding families.

At the end of the 1940s the company began production of plastic items such as indexes, then in the 50s and 60s enlarged and upgraded its production facilities. This even included an open-plan office for its first administrative building, a highly innovative workplace design at the time.

Through the 90s and 2000s the company continued to expand, and now that it has hit its 100-year-milestone, Durable is a $110m firm with 700 employees, selling into more than 80 countries. Its iconic Duraclip folder - first produced in 1959 - has sold more than 500 million units worldwide.
