Sanrio chooses the Fitzrovia branch of Japanese café Tombo for a new concept Hello Kitty pop-up store.
The Tombo Poké and Matcha café, which opened in July 2017, is offering Hello Kitty inspired dishes on the menu and merchandise in the pop-up store, which will be operational for six weeks only. The themed pop-up opened on September 1st and will be selling all things Hello Kitty, including stationery, until October 8th.
A Japanese-British family runs Tombo, whose other branches in South Kensington and Soho also celebrate Japanese food, tea and culture. As lovers of all things hailing from Japan, Hello Kitty is a logical fit for Tombo.
Since the character was created in 1974, Hello Kitty has become a global phenomenon spawning a range of merchandise, cafés and even an aeroplane. Her appeal transcends both age and culture and she has inspired countless artists and designers over the last forty-three years.
